This is Kent, I was able to pry the computer out of Liz’s sleeping hands, this can only happen early in the morning. Liz is doing a great job of giving updates on the Josephs status, I wanted to give an update on a more spiritual status. Talking to a few people they have said that they hope something “good” could come from this experience. I cannot share all the good and spiritual blessing that have come as a result of this experience but I want to share a couple to help family members and friends know that as hard as this is at a physical level it is a blessing and good at a spiritual level.
Soon after Joe was admitted he received a Priesthood blessing by his Bishop and a friend. Later that night, that friend came back and gave each of us in the family a Priesthood blessing. In one of these blessing the phrase “Be still and know that I am God” was spoken. From the beginning He has been in charge. We have marveled at the technology and skill of the medical workers that have attended to Joe, and we are grateful for their abilities, but we know that the only reason that Joe is still with us is because God is in charge and he wants him to be here, no one can go without oxygen to the brain as long as Joe likely did and still have brain activity.
Brigham Young once expressed that his greatest fear for the latter-day saints was prosperity that our lives would become comfortable without trials and we would slowly forget God. Our lives have become relatively easy, and we struggle not to be complacent in our relationship with God. One of the “Collateral Blessings” of this experience is that our prayers have taken on a new intensity; we have been reminded that God knows and loves each of us, and is mindful of our needs on a very personal level. We know that Joseph is experiencing and learning on a spiritual level even now in his current condition.
There have been and I am sure will continue to be many more collateral blessings from this experience. We are not sure exactly what is in store in the future, but I can say that we are willing to be still and know that He is God.
We are so grateful for Tannie, she has been the greatest blessing in Joe’s life, and in our family. We marvel that God has packed so much hope and optimism in that tiny body. We are also grateful for the unity and strength of the entire Stradling family.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers – they are the most powerful medicine.
Kent
Thanks for your comments Kent. What a great way to start my Sabbath day. I love that phrase, "Be still and know that I am God." While we will continue to hope and pray for our idea of a happy ending, we know that God's happy ending truly is the happiest.
ReplyDeleteThis gave me chills! I sure do love your family! I will see you guys soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks hon. You truly nailed it right on the head. Love you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a spiritual giant you are! I feel blessed to know you and your wonderful family : ) I know that God is perfect and his plans are also perfect. Sometimes it's hard to understand the "why" but after a while we are able to look back and see how are trials can be a blessing. It breaks my heart to see your family going through something of this magnitude but I know that the Lord is our strenght and through his angels on earth He can make our burdens lighter. Love you all!!
ReplyDeleteHi Applegate's we just did hear about Joseph and we want to let you know that we love you and are praying for the hand of our Heavenly Father to engulf you with His love and may you see the many tender mercies that I know will come your way. Thank you so much for sharing this experience will all of us.
ReplyDeleteThe peace in your words are the true feelings our Father in Heaven has for us. Grateful I am to have a testimony that the Lord knows each one of us by name and knows the trials that we face. He never leaves us alone. He truly does send angels to strengthen us. Grateful to be loved by Joe! And we love him. Trust in the Lord and we are promised thatitwill all be okay. Love you all and thanks for the blog. Vickie Brown
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this Kent! Great reminder to all of us. We love you all.
ReplyDeleteWonderful comments. Thank you for the spiritual update and the strength it (and you) can provide there. Love you guys!
ReplyDeleteI hope he gets better.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your uplifting words Kent. Your faith in this time of trial and that of your family as well as the Stradlings is astounding and is a great encouragement to those of us that are praying for you. I love you all and hope you continue to feel our love, prayers and support through this immense trial.
ReplyDeleteI will never forget a lesson you taught me Kent years ago about our baptismal covenant and the difference between mourning with those that mourn and comforting those that stand in need of comfort. While our family (ANSI know yours does too) finds great comfort in the plan of salvation, we hope you know that we also mourn with you and your family as you journey into this new phase of your life. We love you all!
ReplyDeleteKent & Liz,
ReplyDeleteWOW! You guys are AMAZING!!! the way that you are dealing with everything and keeping everyone updated is unexpected. We love you guys!!! We loved your visit here Liz, Chels & Ash! Anytime I "accidently" honk the horn, I think of our trip to Nauvoo and how my horn-honking tendency was more funny to some than others. Our girls still talk about you, that's how youcan know that they love you! Ben & I were talking a few weeks ago about how you guys must be doing things right because of how awesome your girls were on your trip. They were just a delight to be around. Also, it didn't hurt that Chels said she had figured out what type of parent she wanted to be & it was half a "Ben & Kacey" and half an "Eddie & Kisty!" That was probably the biggest compliment that I have ever gotten and has fueled my mothering skills ever since! You two, Kent & Liz, are the cement holding this family together at this trying time and thank goodness you have the gospel as your foundation. We love you and are praying like crazy for you guys way out here in Farmington . . .
Missouri!
Love, Kacey (and fam)
Bishop Applegate,
ReplyDeletei have always respected you and have always admired how much of a spiritual giant you are. Joe is a good man, my son adores him and loved the time he spent in their primary class with him and Tannie and he could not wait to tell me what they had learned in class that day. he prays for a recovery as do i. i also enjoyed being in the same ward as Joe and Tannie for the little while we were able to be. you all are a great family and will always have my respect and my prayers. i wish i could do more to help.
love always
Michael, Celeste culler and family
